What an AI sales agent does, and what stays yours

An AI sales agent finds companies that fit your best customers, researches them, writes the first message and follows up. What it does, and what stays yours.

An AI sales agent is software that does the daily outbound work of a junior salesperson: it finds companies that look like your best customers, researches each one, writes a personal first message, follows up when nobody answers, and hands you the conversation the moment someone replies. It does not take the call and it does not close the deal. Those parts stay with you.

That split matters. Most small companies do not lose deals because they cannot sell. They lose them because nobody has time to do the boring part every day: building the list, writing thirty messages, remembering to follow up on Thursday. An AI sales agent (some people call it an AI SDR, after the sales development reps that larger companies hire for this) takes over exactly that part.

The four jobs it does every day

1. It finds companies that fit

You describe your best customers: industry, size, country, what they were struggling with when they came to you. The agent turns that into search criteria and builds a list of companies that match. Not a list of everyone with an email address. A list of companies that look like the ones already paying you.

The list is where most outreach lives or dies. A hundred well-chosen companies beat two thousand random ones, because the message to a well-chosen company can be specific, and specific messages get answered. We cover this in more depth in our guide on outreach automation that does not burn your domain.

2. It researches each one

For every company on the list, the agent reads what is public: the website, recent news, job ads, the person’s role. It is looking for one concrete thing it can mention. A new office. A hiring spree in the department you sell to. A product page that describes the exact problem you solve.

That one observation is the difference between an email that reads “Dear Sir, we offer services” and one that reads like a person who spent five minutes looking.

3. It writes the first message and the follow-ups

The first message is short. It names the observation, connects it to what you do in one sentence, and asks a small question. No brochure, no attachments, no five paragraphs about your company history.

Then it follows up. Two or three times, spaced days apart, each one shorter than the last and each one adding one new angle instead of repeating “just bumping this”. The follow-up is where most replies come from, and it is the step humans skip first when they get busy.

4. It hands over the moment someone replies

When a reply arrives, the agent stops. It does not negotiate, it does not book meetings on your behalf, it does not pretend to be you in a back-and-forth. It shows you the whole thread in the dashboard, flags whether the reply is positive, a question or a no, and you take it from there.

What stays yours

The reply. The call. The offer. The price. The relationship.

This is a deliberate line, not a limitation. The person who replied wants to talk to someone who can actually answer questions and make a decision. That is you, or someone on your team. The agent’s job is to make sure that conversation happens at all, with the right companies, every week, without you spending your evenings on it.

If you are weighing this against hiring someone, our comparison of a salesperson and an AI sales agent goes through how to think about the cost honestly.

How approval works

Nothing goes out that you have not seen. In practice it works like this:

  • The agent proposes a target list. You remove companies you do not want to contact (a competitor, a current client, a company you already talked to).
  • It drafts the message sequence. You edit the tone, cut a sentence, change the question at the end.
  • Once you approve a sequence, it runs. New batches of companies still land in the dashboard for a quick look before they enter the sequence.
  • Every reply, every send and every follow-up is visible in one place. If you want, we connect the same feed to Telegram, WhatsApp or Slack so a reply pings you where you already are.

Early on you will read everything. After two or three weeks, most people check the dashboard once a day, approve a batch in a few minutes, and spend their attention on the replies.

What “trained on your company” means in practice

This is not a vague promise. Before the agent sends anything, we sit down with you and write out four things.

Your offer. What you sell, to whom, and the outcome they get. In plain words, the way you would say it on a call.

Your best customers. Five to ten real examples. Why they bought, what they had tried before, what they said in the first meeting. The agent uses these as the pattern for finding more.

The objections. What people say when they do not buy. Too expensive, we have someone for that, not now. The agent learns which ones to address in a follow-up and which ones mean a polite stop.

Your tone. Whether you are formal or direct, whether you use first names, how you sign off. The messages should sound like you wrote them on a good day, because your prospects will eventually meet you.

All of this lives in a shared memory that the sales agent and our other agents draw on. Fix the offer description once and every message, post and ad that follows uses the corrected version.

What to expect, honestly

Outbound is a consistency game, not a magic trick. A few things to know before you start.

The first replies take weeks, not days. Sending domains need warming up, sequences need a full cycle to play out, and the first batches teach you which segment answers. Judge the system after a month, not after the first Tuesday.

List quality decides almost everything. If the list is wrong, better writing does not save it. If the list is right, a plain message works.

Reply rates are small numbers. Most people will not answer, and that is normal for every outbound channel on earth. What matters is that the small share who do answer are the right companies, and that the conversations keep arriving every week.

Your part is fast replies. A positive answer that waits three days for a response goes cold. The agent can hand over in seconds; the human side needs to pick it up the same day.

What to prepare before you start

You do not need a CRM, a sales deck or a marketing department. You need:

  • A one-paragraph description of what you sell and who it is for
  • A list of your five to ten best customers and why they bought
  • A domain and inbox for outreach that is not your main one (we help set this up)
  • Someone on your team who will answer replies within a day
  • One hour for the setup conversation and a few minutes a day after that

That is roughly what happens in the first four days of our 14-day launch plan: learn the business, connect the accounts, publish nothing yet. Days five to nine are list and sequence approval, and the channel is live by day 14.

What to do this week

  • Write down your best five customers and one sentence on why each one bought.
  • Describe your offer in two sentences a stranger would understand.
  • Decide who answers replies and how fast.
  • Register a separate domain for outreach, so your main domain never carries the risk.
  • List the ten objections you hear most and your honest answer to each.

If you would rather have someone look at your situation first, the free 30-minute teardown does exactly that: we map how you win customers today, tell you which channel we would start with, and you leave with a written one-page plan. Details are on the pricing page.

Questions people ask

What is an AI sales agent?

Software that finds companies matching your best customers, researches them, writes personal outreach and follow-ups, and hands you the conversation when someone replies. You take the call and close the deal.

Does an AI sales agent replace a salesperson?

No. It replaces the daily prospecting and follow-up work that usually does not get done. A person still answers replies, runs the call and makes the offer.

How long before an AI sales agent brings replies?

Plan for weeks, not days. Sending domains need warming up and a sequence needs its full cycle to play out. Judge the channel after a month of consistent sending.
